Meet our Accounting MD: Neil Ormesher

At Danbro, we’re guided by our values of trust, respect, integrity, dynamism and, above all, family. It’s so important to us that our employees embody and represent these qualities. None more so than our Accounting MD, Neil Ormesher.

With a keen interest in technology, efficiency, and personal service, Neil exemplifies Danbro’s culture and vision for the future. Neil’s been in accounting for almost a quarter of a century. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant back in 2005, becoming a member of ACCA two years later. He joined the Danbro Group shortly after. Following 11 successful years – during which time he qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor – Neil became the MD of Danbro Accounting Ltd in 2019.

In his personal life, Neil’s hobbies include cooking and spending time with his wife, Kirsteen, and their three children. He’s also a (long-suffering) supporter of Everton FC…

Shortly after taking the role, we caught up with him to find out how he’d settled in. We asked him about his aspirations for the company’s future, and what it’s like to be one of the longest-standing members of the Danbro Family.

  1. So, Neil, how’re you finding your new role as Accounting MD?

“I’m loving my new role. It feels like I’ve been building up to this for my entire career. I’m so proud to be leading such an amazing group of people and wake up every day ready to make a difference.”

  1. What’s a typical day like for you now?

“Well, no two days are the same [especially in 2020!]. My role covers the whole business operation.

“Currently our focus is on business and personal growth. I try to spend as much time as possible on the areas that cover this.”

  1. As Accounting MD, what are your main aims for the business? And, how do you envisage Danbro Accounting’s development as a company?

“My passion has always been to help create a future full of opportunity both for our people and our clients. Growth is a huge part of this. With growth, comes opportunities.

“It feels amazing to see some of our people grow from young apprentices into managers, learning valuable skills and knowledge along the way. They can then pass that on to our new recruits; it’s like our own eco system!”

  1. How would you describe your approach to leadership? Have you found that your outlook has changed the further your career has developed?

“My approach is, and has always been, to lead from the front and by example. I’m at my best when I’m in the thick of it, and still get involved with all aspects of the business. This allows me to see the challenges we face in an ever changing industry.

“In the last few years I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the leader I want to be. And I realised I can’t be anyone other than myself. I need to let my qualities shine and also be vulnerable to the areas I’m working on at the moment.”

  1. What’s the most rewarding thing about working for Danbro?

“From the very first day I started at Danbro what’s been clear has been our values. The two that mean the most to me are dynamic and family. We have a real family ethos. That’s evident with the amount of family members that work here, including my wife!

We’re always encouraging our people to think outside the box. We want them to challenge the norm and being dynamic is a big part of this.”

  1. Which aspects of Danbro Accounting – and our services – are you most proud of?

“I’m most proud of the personal service we strive to give. I do appreciate that there’s a stigma attached to the accounting industry and we’re trying to break that. We’re different. We have a genuine passion to help our customers thrive.”

  1. What’s been the company’s biggest achievement during your time here?

“I would have to say winning Employer of the Year at the BIBA’s… twice! This reinforces the passion and faith that we put into our people. It’s a great honour to get recognition for this.”

  1. What’s been your – and your department’s – greatest challenge, and what did you learn from it?

“I would have to say our greatest challenge was the change in structure last year [safe to say we conducted this interview before the Coronavirus pandemic…]. I knew the process was important for us to grow and continue moving forwards. I also learned that people have different relationships with change. It’s important to ensure you listen to peoples’ concerns. You need to remain flexible and be adaptable throughout the process.”

  1. Is there anything you would improve about Danbro Accounting?

“There will always be things to improve to ensure we stay ahead of the curve. We’ve recently launched a new online portal. Behind the scenes, we’re working hard on fine-tuning this to help us provide an ever-improving service to our clients.”

  1. Finally, can you give me three words to describe Danbro Accounting?

“Personal. Passionate. Digital.”
