Life Assurance has been voted the most important type of insurance a family can have. Bright Grey, a life assurance specialist recently surveyed 2000 consumers on what they believed to be the most important form of insurance and the top answer with 40% was life assurance.

However, worryingly the product only came third when the same people were asked what cover they actually themselves had.

What people actually insure is as follows:

74% insure their home contents
61% insure their trips abroad
53% insure their life
20% insure their credit cards
20% insure their boiler
15% insure their mobile phones

Even if you have existing life assurance perhaps to protect your mortgage or for family protection it may be beneficial to refresh your cover as you could be paying much more than you need to as rates have fallen in recent years.

The above research also shows many people have no life assurance and are unsure about what level of cover may be appropriate and how the application process works.
