Danbro Childcare Vouchers – Allowing working families to save up to £2932 per year!
Childcare voucher schemes can save working parents up to £2932 per year, yet there’s so many that don’t take advantage simply because they are unaware of such schemes.
There are 2 ways in which childcare vouchers can be used. Firstly when an employer offers the employee childcare vouchers on top of their salary and secondly (and most likely) when childcare vouchers are taken as a salary sacrifice - This is when parents give up a portion of their salary in return for childcare vouchers, which they then use to pay their childcare providers. The advantage being that Childcare vouchers are non taxable and exempt from national insurance contributions (NICs). In simple terms this means a saving of 31% of the total amount claimed for basic rate tax payers and 41% for higher rate tax payers. So for every £100 a basic rate tax payer pays from their wages they receive roughly £130 in Childcare vouchers. However there is a limit to the amount that each parent can claim. The maximum amounts are £55/week or £243/month regardless of the number of children in the family.
For example; a two parent family can claim up to £486 per month in Childcare vouchers regardless of the amount of children they have, which would give the family an annual saving of £2392!
Who is eligible?
Childcare vouchers can be used not only for the costs of pre-school children in nurseries but for costs of any child up to the age of 16 in registered or approved childcare. This includes;
- Registered childminders, nurseries and play schemes
- Out of hours clubs on school premises run by a school or local authority
- Childcare schemes run by approved providers
- Childcare given in a child’s home that has been approved under a government scheme
- Accredited childcare for 8s and over by an approved organisation.
